Who We Are: ReCode Therapeutics is a clinical-stage genetic medicines company using precision delivery to power the next wave of mRNA and gene correction therapeutics. ReCode's proprietary Selective Organ Targeting (SORT) lipid nanoparticle (LNP) platform enables highly precise and targeted delivery of genetic medicines directly to the organs, tissues and cells implicated in disease, enabling improved efficacy and potency. ReCode's lead programs include RCT1100 for the treatment of primary ciliary dyskinesia caused by pathogenic mutations in the DNAI1 gene, and RCT2100 for the treatment of the 10-13% of cystic fibrosis patients who have Class I mutations in the CFTR gene and do not respond to currently approved CFTR modulators. RCT1100 and RCT2100 are inhaled disease-modifying mRNA-based therapies formulated using the SORT LNP delivery platform. ReCode is expanding its pipeline to develop potential therapies for other rare and common genetic diseases, including musculoskeletal, central nervous system, liver and infectious disease indications. Summary of Position: We are seeking an accomplished and detail-oriented scientist dedicated to establishing robust in vitro models and primary airway cell cultures for the research and evaluation of ReCode's therapeutics. While the majority of this role will be hands-on benchwork, people leadership responsibilities may be included based on experience of the candidate. The candidate is expected to be a subject matter expert in mucosal biology of the lung. Work experience or publications in respiratory diseases, such as CF, PCD, IPF, or ARDS, would be highly regarded. He/she will support a team of research scientists and research associates developing therapeutics for lung diseases with ReCode's proprietary lipid nanoparticle (LNP) delivery vehicle solutions. The qualified candidate is a highly motivated, interactive, and team-oriented individual who can work across a matrixed environment. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a fast-paced, rapidly growing company developing a pipeline of therapies for severe life-limiting diseases. Responsibilities: * Subject matter expert in lung mucosal biology and primary human cell culture models. * Design, oversee and/or execute cell biology experiments, applying advanced molecular techniques and assays in a therapeutic drug discovery workflow. * Oversee the design and execution disease-relevant assays across diverse therapeutic applications internally and through CRO partners. * Ensure site-wide electronic lab notebook and record keeping complies with company policies. * Contribute to the discovery and early preclinical research plans, including defining key milestones and decision points and timelines, identifying risks and mitigation strategies towards later development and IND filings. Qualifications: * PhD in molecular biology, cell biology or related discipline with typically 5-8+ years of experience in industry (exact level and title will be commensurate with experience) * Expertise in primary human airway derived cell culture systems. * Prior experience and willingness to work in a BSL2 environment. * Prior working knowledge of Molecular Biology Assays (e.g. Western blot, qPCR, NGS etc.), Cell Biology Assays (e.g. immunofluorescence, cell imaging and microscopy etc.) and Functional Biology (e.g. Ussing chambers, etc.) * Experience with non-viral delivery platforms preferred but not required. * Advanced knowledge of statistical tools (Microsoft Excel, GraphPad, RStudio) * Ability to communicate complicated scientific concepts to a diverse audience. Position is based in Menlo Park, CA and the expectation is for full on-site presence.
